After taking 600 mg of ibuprofen last year for a week, it occurred to me that my chances of getting an ulcer probably increased exponentially.
I told my doctor that I didn't like taking ibuprofen at such a high dosage and she goes, "why don't you try Aleve?" So I did because my shoulder is defective and sore all the time.
What happened when I took 2 aleve like I was told to? I get chest pains!
Let me recap the last 48 hours of my life at the hospital:
"So Katherine, how is your shoulder doing?"
"It's still really sore."
"Did you take the aleve like I told you to?"
"Yeah, but I didn't always have aleve so when it was bothering me, I would take some ibuprofen. When I finally got aleve, I took 1 tablet every 8 hours."
"But I told you to take prescription strength, which would have been 2."
"I did take 2 tablets sunday night because my shoulder was so sore that it hurt to lift my arm. After I took the aleve, my chest started to hurt so I ate some cereal because that's what I normally do, eat something, when I take medicine and it upsets me."
"And?"
"The chest pains haven't gone away so I haven't taken any aleve since."
"Hmm... sounds like you're sensitive to medicine. Why don't you try taking maalox or mylanta because I think the aleve inflamed your esophogus."

FAST FORWARD TO THIS MORNING-
"Nurse, is it normal that I threw up and have a stomach ache after taking tylenol and maalox?"
"Yes. You should drink some ginger ale."
"But my chest still hurts. What should I do?"
"Come in."

[at another doctor's office]
"What seems to be the problem?"
(read above)
"Oh. Hmm... sounds like you're really sensitive to medicine."
YA THINK!?!?

What is the moral of this story? Over the counter medicine does not work for everyone and Kathy is sensitive to medications.

I hate my life. Have I mentioned that?
*sigh*
